About me

My story started several years ago with my dog, Sam.Sam

Sam the beagle was miserable: constantly itching, scratching, chewing his paws. He would wake us up at night chewing and itching and scratching. The vet said he had allergies, and I should put him on a steroid.

After reading about the horrible side effects of steroids, I was determined to find an alternative. So I started Googling. God help anyone up against a determined dog ‘mama’ with Google on her side. It wasn’t long before I came across a movement of people zealously proclaiming the benefits of a raw meat diet for dogs. With not much to lose, and sleepful nights to gain, Sam and I embarked on a new “diet”.

Sam, to his delight, found himself at the receiving end of a variety of delicious raw meat and bones. He thought he had died and gone to heaven. To MY delight, after several weeks, Sam’s allergies cleared up. To my amazement, his coat became shiny and soft. His teeth glowed white. He became the picture of health. Our previously neurotic, high maintenance dog, became calm, relaxed, and full of joyful energy.

After seeing Sam’s amazing transformation, it suddenly struck me that maybe food offered more than just ingredients for a tasty meal. After seeing Sam’s transformation, I started to realize it had a much farther-reaching impact. I started wondering: if diet could change Sam in such a positive way, what was the optimal diet for humans that would give us the equivalent of a smooth coat, white teeth and tons of energy?

That is where my journey really began. Since then, I have been my own science experiment – trying every “diet”  and food philosophy I could get my hands on. From veganism, to vegetarianism, the PH Diet, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Paleo, the Blood Type diet, Clean Gut, Virgin Diet, Cruise Control Diet, traditional foods…. I’ve experimented and tried it all — all with the goal of finding the optimal diet for me.
